Oh, this is wonderful – thank you so much!!! My show inspired by Passaredo went very well, I will send you a picture if you like. I think it must be a good sign that I am hearing from you now – I am thinking about doing some more bird art work this year and my thoughts had turned again to Tom Jobim. I am so grateful to hear from you and read your response! 🙂

At the video, Chico Buarque explained that he asked Tom Jobim and some ornithologists to borrow him field guides in order to pick up some bird names to write the lyrics. ;-) Tom Jobim was a great birder - many of his songs and albums are named after birds, as Urubu, Sabiá and Matita Perê.

This is wonderful! I am an artist doing a small exhibition of bird paintings inspired by Tom Jobim and Chico Buarque, calling it “Passaredo”! It is for a Brazilian cafe here in Portland, OR where I live. I don’t understand Portuquese – would anyone be able to translate for me what Chico says about him and Tom Jobim and this song? I would be so grateful!

Sem dúvida trabalho interessante e, acredito “trabalhoso”. A ajuda de renomadas pessoas, entre nossos ornitólogos e outros, também é digno de nota. Sugiro a revisão para saíra visto que consta como “aves do gênero Thraupidae” quando deveria ser da família Thraupidae. Pretendo usar esta postagem no contexto de uma outra que estou fazendo. Então se você fizer a alteração sugerida não precisarei fazê-la.

sou admirador de pássaros,fui criado no interior de são paulo,Itirapuã,foi lá que aprendi a conhece los na natureza,mas,sempre me perguntei,como pode,sendo o Chico um cidadão urbano conhecer tanto?,passaredo é uma intimidade, o Tom foi mais que um “maestro soberano”.

Gostei muito, uma aula sobre a classificação sistemática das aves, parte da biologia desinteressada por quase um todo da população. Valeu, foi ótimo.
